Teri Garr has passed away, “surrounded by family and friends” Tuesday after a two-decade battle with multiple sclerosis.  She was 79.

Teri was best-known for her memorable comedic roles in ‘Young Frankenstein’ and ‘Tootsie,’ earning an Academy Award nomination for the latter in 1983. In the ’90s, she was tapped as a guest star opposite Lisa Kudrow on ‘Friends,’ matching her on-screen daughter’s trademark quirkiness as Phoebe Buffay’s long-lost mother.

Garr retired from acting in 2011.
