SAN DIEGO – A Middletown, Ohio, native and 2017 Xenia High School graduate is serving in the U.S. Navy aboard the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt.

Petty Officer 3rd Class Kayla Bryant is a boatswain’s mate aboard the carrier operating out of San Diego. As a Navy boatswain’s mate, Bryant is responsible for conducting watch stations, manning the ship 24/7 while underway, special evolutions, mooring and anchoring the ship.

Bryant credits success in the Navy to many of the lessons learned growing up in Middletown.

“My mom would always tell me to stay focused,” said Bryant. “By staying focused I have accomplished getting two pins in under a year, and getting promoted to the next rank.”
