Foster Child Gets Adopted After 17 Years In The System

It’s National Adoption Month, and the longest-waiting child in the Arkansas foster care system has finally been adopted. 

Jose suffered brain damaged after suffering from shaken baby syndrome at the hands of a caretaker, and spent a staggering 6,183 days, 17 years,  in foster care. His biological family abandoned him in a care facility when he was just one year old.

Dr. Mary Zhang was the one who became Jose’s medical advocate, as he suffers from verbal and visual impairments and is mostly paralyzed. And as she visited him more and more, she and her husband felt he needed to be a part of their family. He will still need to live in an facility to be monitored 24/7, but his new family live close by and will see him daily to let him know he’s not alone.
