The University of Virginia’s Men’s Basketball team won the NCAA Basketball Tournament Championship Monday night in Minneapolis with an exciting overtime victory over Texas Tech. Three time National Coach of the year Tony Bennett led Virginia to their first Championship in School history after becoming the first Number One seed to lose to a Number 16 seed in tournament history just last year. The University is located in Charlottsville Va., the city that erupted in violent protest at a White Nationalist Rally “Unite The Right” last year which led to a 32 year old woman being killed by one of the members when he plowed his vehicle into the crowd. James Alex Fields was found guilty last December of killing Heather Heyer along with over 30 other hate related crimes. The jury recommended life in prison plus 419 years. Virginia’s political and racial views historically have been on the wrong side of history but at least for one night ALL came together to celebrate the National Trophy on it’s way to Charlottsville Va! Personally it was great to see Ralph Sampson, the greatest player in Virginia history but who constantly fell short during his playing days of delivering a championship, celebrating with current players who were not even born when Ralph was the 7’4 phenom and 3 time National Player of the Year! Yes Virginia, all is good today. Ya’ll enjoy. Next year everyone will pick Duke. Again.
