The whole family can enjoy the Rike’s Wonderland Windows in the Schuster Center Wintergarden. The animated elves and animals first appeared in NCR’s New York office windows in 1943, but many Daytonians remember them from their annual holiday pilgrimage to the Rike’s Department Store which sat on the corner of Second and Main Streets (where the Schuster Center now sits).

NEW BOXES
With this 2019 holiday season, we welcome four more new Rike’s Holiday Window displays as part of Wintergarden Wonderland. The Merry Makeover campaign was a huge success, raising more than $65,000 to redesign and rebuild the Rike’s Holiday Window displays. Thank you to all our donors and sponsors who have ensured this Dayton tradition continues for years to come.
Critically acclaimed theatre and opera scenic designer and Dayton native Adam Koch remembers visiting Rike’s to see the windows each holiday season and has lovingly designed these new windows, which were constructed by Scenic Solutions with support from the Dayton Sewing Collaborative.
The setup, teardown, and visits by thousands of families every year take their toll on these traditional holiday favorites.
