Ella Mai was the big winner Sunday night at the Soul Train Awards. She won awards for Song of the year, best R&B Soul female artist and a third for Songwriting
The 24 year old singer born in London to a Jamaican Mother and Irish Father moved to New York at the age of 12, then returned to England after graduating from Queens High School of Teaching. She participated in England’s version of the X Factor but did not advance past the first round. She then downloaded four of her tracks onto SoundCloud, the word on the street slowly got out about the girl from London, right person noticed about her talents, who then checked Ella Mai out on Instagram, and the rest as they say is History.
Her hit Boo’ed Up just won Song of the Year, and her follow up single entitled “Trip” is quickly rising on the charts. I’m sure her music will be a fixture on WROU 92.1 for years to come.
