Every parent of a teen knows the struggle of taxiing kids from place to place. Now Uber is stepping in to help with some of that driving.
Uber Teen is a new program by the ride sharing company focused on teen passengers. The new program launched this week in select cities across the country including Dayton, Columbus, and Cincinnati. The program has quietly been in the works for a while, but Uber just made the news official in the last couple of weeks.
I know that pain of having to cart kids around all day and I’ve considered putting “Taxi Driver” as a job title on my resume. The idea of having some help with the driving sounds great, but every parent has concerns about safety. Uber Teen has been working through the hurdles, and offers up the following information on their site.
With a teen account, they’ll have the freedom to request their own rides—and you’ll be notified every time they do. Plus, with live safety features and real-time updates, you can follow along from pickup to dropoff. One thing that will never change is our commitment to helping keep your teens safe while using Uber. Together, let’s get them moving.
While this might not be the perfect thing for everyone in the beginning, if Uber can ensure that the teen program is safe over time, I can see it being a big development.
If you’re a parent of teens, let us know if you will be using the new Uber Teen program.
